The Center for the Interdisciplinary Research on Religion and Society (CIRRuS) combines the classical disciplines of theology with empirical, hermeneutical and historical questions, methods and theory development in the fields of sociology of religion, psychology of religion and history. In this way, normative and descriptive competencies enter into conversation with each other and many fields of interdisciplinary cooperation are opened up, at Bielefeld University and beyond.

Current research foci:

Schäfer, Seibert: Sociology of Religion, Systematic Theology,
Streib: Biographical religious Research,
Witulski: social and local historical interpretation, biblical theology
